Square Town Centre on Tuesday 23rd October 1990 was the catalyst for the development of Tallaght, now the fastest growing urban centre in Ireland. Opened by the then Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, to a crowd of 45,000, the centre was the largest shopping complex of its type in Ireland covering 28 acres. Using innovative design techniques, the centre was awarded the European Shopping Centre of the Year award in 1991.
